ROADBURN 2016 - 14-17 avril - Tilburg (NL)

We’re ecstatic to be able to kick off the Roadburn 2016 news with a trio of announcements that we’re incredibly proud of.

Neurosis will celebrate their 30th anniversary as headliners at the 2016 edition of the festival. The iconic band will in fact perform twice at Roadburn 2016 - as headliners on both Saturday 16 April, and on Sunday 17 April. The two completely different sets will span the band's entire career, showcasing NEUROSIS’ comprehensive evolution from their primitive beginnings to the seminal, epic outfit they are today.

We’ll also have doom legends, Paradise Lost, headlining on the Thursday of Roadburn with a special set where they will play their highly influential second album ‘Gothic’ in full, as well as selections from their latest album ‘The Plague Within’. Gothic has influenced - and will continue to influence - many generations of musicians, and creatives - and we’re thrilled to be hosting this special performance at Roadburn. Renowned Romanian artist, Costin Chioreanu will be providing bespoke animated visuals to accompany PARADISE LOST's Roadburn set.

Last but most certainly not least, we’re very excited to announce our festival curator for 2016 - Lee Dorrian. As a musician, label owner, and all round sonic pioneer, Lee has already influenced us at Roadburn in so many ways. Next year, we’ll be giving him a stage - or rather two, as for the first time the curation will take place over two days (Main stage Friday, Het Patronaat on Saturday) - on which to bring his Rituals for the Blind Dead to life.

We can happily announce that Roadburn 2016 tickets will go on sale on October 2! Mark it in your diaries now!
To accompany this news, we’re happy to announce Amenra (playing a rare acoustic show, plus a fully electric mass), The Skull (ft. Eric Wagner and Ron Holzner of Trouble-fame) also playing two shows, Green Carnation (Light of Day, Day of Darkness in full), LA MUERTE, Der Blutharsch and the infinite church of the leading hand, :Of The Wand & The Moon: Official, Lychgate (performing An Antidote for the Glass Pill in its entirety with organist on stage), and Chaos Echœs have been added to the bill.

We’re very proud to have Tau Cross playing their only upcoming European show with us next April. Lee Dorrian has announced the first bands for his curated event - Pentagram (official) and Galley Beggar.
Our Artists In Residence, Misþyrming will be making their presence felt.
We have something of a Finnish Invasion on our hands with Abyssion, Dark Buddha Rising, Atomikylä, Oranssi pazuzu , Hexvessel & Arktau Eos performing Mirrow Dawn, and mr. peter hayden.

When we invited Lee Dorrian to be our 2016 curator, With The Dead was yet to be unleashed on the world. As snippets were released, and excitement mounted, we held out a bit of hope that those songs would make the journey from studio to the live arena. Now that hope has been realised, as Lee Dorrian has confirmed that With The Dead will make their first ever festival appearance at Roadburn 2016 as part of his Rituals for the Blind Dead curation.

Lee commented: “I am extremely pleased to announce the very first confirmed live appearance of my new band With The Dead. We will be grimacing the main stage of 013 at my curated event, Rituals For The Blind Dead, on Friday 15th April. Following the overwhelmingly positive response to the release our debut album, we felt the need to show our gratitude and commit to some special live performances. With me being so involved in Roadburn 2016, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for us to step up to the altar of heaviness and sacrifice our lamented souls to all in attendance.”

For the uninitiated, the With The Dead album was put together by an unholy trinity of doom – with individual reputations for contributing to some of the most bowel shakingly heavy output of the last twenty years. Dorrian joined forces with Tim Bagshaw (ex-Electric Wizard, Ramesses, Serpentine Path) and Mark Greening (ex-Electric Wizard, Ramesses) to lay down the six tracks that make up With The Dead’s self titled debut – and they don’t hold back!

We’ve already heard “album of the year” being touted around, and it’s not unwarranted; there’s an awful lot of venom, urgency and bile crammed into this doom masterclass. Recorded at Orgone Studios, London, by Jaime Gomez Arellano in just a handful of short sessions, have swaggered into 2015 without much in the way of fanfare, but they’re already creating enormous waves.

Every magazine write up queries future life performances; fans have been eager for a live incarnation since the word go – and now we can confirm that it’s actually going to happen. With further announcements due as to exactly how these songs will be brought to life, we’re already beyond excited to see this nihilistic doom live at Roadburn 2016.

To celebrate the upcoming 15 year anniversary of their legendary “Jane Doe” album, Converge will perform the album in its entirety for the first and last time. The album is considered a classic that defined the metallic hardcore genre as we know it today. This special set is exclusive to the Roadburn Festival and will not be played again anywhere, ever.

Converge will play the “Jane Doe” album live in its entirety at Roadburn 2016 on Thursday, April 14.

Converge “Blood Moon” is a collaboration between members Jacob Bannon, Kurt Ballou, Nate Newton, and Ben Koller and guest musicians Chelsea Wolfe, Ben Chisholm, Stephen Brodsky, and Steve Von Till. Together as a multi-instrumental group they will create renditions of existing Converge material focusing on the band’s slower, more ambitious work within their legendary catalog.

Converge “Blood Moon” will perform live at Roadburn 2016 on Saturday, April 16.
